What families have said

Valley of the Sun Mortuary provided exceptional care, compassion, and professionalism during one of the most difficult times a family can face. From the very beginning, they treated us with dignity, patience, and genuine empathy. I want to give special recognition to Alex Guerrero, who went above and beyond in every possible way. Alex was kind, attentive, and incredibly respectful, taking the time to explain every step clearly and never rushing us. His calm presence and compassion made an overwhelming process feel manageable, and it was clear that he truly cared about honoring our loved one with respect and grace. Every detail was handled thoughtfully, and our family felt supported throughout the entire process. I am deeply grateful for the care we received and highly recommend Valley of the Sun Mortuary — especially Alex — to anyone needing services during a difficult time. Thank you for treating our family with such humanity and care.

I am extremely disappointed with our experience at Valley of the Sun Mortuary. Several staff members were passive aggressive and outright rude during interactions with our family, which is unacceptable given the sensitive nature of their work and the grief families are experiencing. What was most upsetting was that decorations placed for our loved one were thrown away without notice, despite being in approved vases and fully compliant with their stated guidelines. At no point did anyone attempt to contact us, send an email, or otherwise notify family members before discarding these items. They just had a poster poster outside for two weeks. Unfortunately, I am only able to come once a month and missed it. This lack of communication was both hurtful and disrespectful. Families trust mortuaries to handle not just remains, but memories and tributes with care and compassion. Unfortunately, Valley of the Sun Mortuary failed in this regard. Compassion, professionalism, and basic communication were sorely lacking, and I would strongly caution other families to be aware of this before choosing their services.

John and Kevin has made my dad’s death a little bit better to handle. When my husband and I first walked in; I was sooooo nervous and scared, but when I met Kevin, it felt comfortable and professional. My family are so thankful for their support, education, and love that they provided us at the hardest times of our lives. Both of them rock as a team. They upkeep the place very beautifully and I am so happy that my dad is laid to rest there. At least it makes me feel a little bit better that my dad is in good hands and that we are also supported through the whole thing. Again, I cannot thank these 2 amazing people enough. If you have any doubts at all; don’t be scared because they will hold your hand every step of the way.

Jennifer and her team did a phenomenal job of helping and executing my mom’s celebration of life. The designer was amazing and the tables were absolutely PERFECT! We couldn’t be happier!

Death is a very troubling experience. Very delicate time with mixed emotions and high emotions. I felt that our point of contact at this facility was very sympathetic, aware of her customer's needs, and very accommodating without pushing the company's own agenda. I loved that everything was presented on a large screen for us to clearly see and make choices. There is a large variety of choices from plain and simple to completely extravagant, whatever your family's needs would be. When we had questions, she had answers. Overall the process was very simple but complete. We left with no questions unanswered and overall, considering the circumstances, we're so pleased with everything. Thank you.

How honors are coordinated

Military funeral honors are guaranteed at no cost for any veteran discharged under conditions other than dishonorable. The funeral home arranges the honors detail by contacting the deceased's last unit or the nearest active-duty installation of the appropriate branch and submitting the DD-214 to verify eligibility.

For requests less than 72 hours from service time, families can call the Department of Defense's expedited honors line at 1-877-MIL-HONR (1-877-645-4667). See the full honors protocol.
