I want to give a round of applause to the staff at Smith's Funeral Home. I had to use their services for 2 people in the span of 8 months, back to back. Everyone treated me like they cared and had sympathy for me. Everyone from the director, to the assistant, to the one that makes the funeral programs, to the one that does the eulogy, was on point with making sure that everything ran smoothly. Shann is a wonderful addition to their team. She has excellent customer service. I don't usually write reviews, but I would recommend their services.

If and when a funeral home is needed. I definitely would recommend Smith Funeral Home in Elizabeth, NJ. I recently attended my uncle's funeral at Smith Funeral Home. They were so understanding and any obstacles that arose in the preparation for the service they handled it and took control of it quickly. They are so compassionate in knowing how much it hurts to lose a loved one and they make the preparations as easy as possible. Shawn and Ms. Myra of Smith's were so attentive to every need that our family had. They also provided their worship singer and musician and they sang and played so beautifully. They filled the atmosphere with praise to comfort the family. Such beautiful people at Smith Funeral Home may God bless them always!

The services provided by Smith Funeral Home were truly exceptional. I am filled with profound gratitude for the care, tenderness, and loving kindness with which they handled my beloved brother who was funeralized this week. Their care and attention to detail was on full display because my brother looked like himself, elegant and handsome. The support and professionalism we received from Ms. Myra, Shawn, and the Smith Funeral Home staff was beyond measure. The ambiance was warm and welcoming and the special unexpected touches, like the memorial backdrop that they made of my brother, captured the essence of who he was and, the worship music played by the organist and soloist who sang so beautifully was simply wonderful! To witness the compassion, concern, and consideration Myra showed my sister and family, and the careful manner Shawn handled everything at the cemetery was unforgettable. Truly, their discreet attentiveness and love was notably felt and seen during our sorrowful and difficult time. It is these touching deeds that made a sad time easier to bear and for which I am forever grateful.

Smith Funeral Home did such an outstanding job in handling the funeral of my beloved uncle. Everything from the lady who greeted us as we got there, to the organist, to the amazing gentleman who sang so beautifully, to arranging a casket cover at no cost because ours never got there on time, to the professionalism, and let me not forget that they made my uncle look like my uncle! I had no expectations as I never even knew about the Smith funeral home until now. I highly recommend this business and of the many things they got right, the peace that they gave my family and myself is something that I will truly never forget.

How honors are coordinated

Military funeral honors are guaranteed at no cost for any veteran discharged under conditions other than dishonorable. The funeral home arranges the honors detail by contacting the deceased's last unit or the nearest active-duty installation of the appropriate branch and submitting the DD-214 to verify eligibility.

For requests less than 72 hours from service time, families can call the Department of Defense's expedited honors line at 1-877-MIL-HONR (1-877-645-4667). See the full honors protocol.
