Services provided encompass professional funeral director and support staff, transfer and professional care of the deceased, cremation services, use of mortuary facilities for visitations or gatherings, funeral or memorial ceremonies, use of automotive equipment, and an online interactive memorial website. Eligibility for these benefits generally requires the veteran to have been honorably discharged, including active duty members, Selected Reserve members, and former military members discharged due to service-related disabilities.”

By law (10 U.S.C. § 1491), an eligible veteran's funeral can include, on request, an honors detail of at least two service members who fold and present the U.S. flag to the family and play Taps. The funeral director usually makes the request and will need the veteran's DD214 or other discharge papers.
