I had an excellent experience during a very emotional time and John and Sydney made my experience seamless and exceptional. My dad had worked with Green funeral home over 30 years ago in the passing of his own Mom and Dad. My Dad had preplanned arrangements with John and Green funeral home back in 2013. However, there were things as a family we wanted in addition and they walked me through it all. Sydney was so patient with me when having to make decisions on pictures, sayings and finalizing my video. John recommend our limo, hotels, flowers and even a pastry shop . Our entire trip to pittsburgh with family flying in from Florida was such a glorious celebration all because of George Irvin Green funeral home! And military honors were taken care of at the graveside with a bugle serenade. John made sure my special needs brother was a part of all of and had them give him the folded flag. Sydney made my brother his own special bag of prayer cards, and pictures. Donald the original owners son even stopped by on Saturday to introduce himself and wish his condolences. The funeral home itself made me feel like I was in the most beautiful family room / house where we we are loved on and catered to for anything we needed. They made my Dads passing the most beautiful experience and gave me so much Peace and for that I am forever grateful. They are family that really truly understands and cares. Thank you!

From the minute we met with the funeral director to plan my dad’s viewing, I felt at ease. John was so helpful and patient with us . And Caitlin put together a beautiful video of all the pictures we sent her. They really took care of everything and made this unbearable time a little easier. I think one of the most helpful things was John called the cemetery to schedule an appointment for us and gave them information so we didn’t have to be bothered making any other calls.

If we were able to, we would triple the stars. John and Kaitlin were comforting, professional, courteous, informative, and the list goes on. We dealt with the untimely death of our son... the hardest loss in life. We were given the opportunity to make lots of choices, without being forced or coerced to "hurry up". The room was beautiful. He looked perfect in every way. The woman that was there with us in the evening went above and beyond what we would ever have expected, in regard to making sure the children were busy, keeping us hydrated and comfortable and doing so with such grace. Thank you... all of you, for helping us with our loss, and doing it in such a professional, yet very personal way.

John and the staff of the George Irvin Green Funeral home took excellent care of my deceased husband. They treated me like a member if their family. They comforted me and gave me the guidance I needed to move on from my tragedy. They were excellent. It wasn’t just a job to them! They even gave me cookies to take home. Thank you so very much for the care and concern you showed me and my husband in our time of need.

How honors are coordinated

The funeral home arranges the honors detail by contacting the deceased's last unit or the nearest active-duty installation of the appropriate branch and submitting the DD-214 to verify eligibility.

For requests less than 72 hours from service time, families can call the Department of Defense's expedited honors line at 1-877-MIL-HONR (1-877-645-4667). See the full honors protocol.
