“From the family of Gregory Lee Wilson I cannot say enough wonderful things about D W Swick Funeral Home. They turned one of the hardest moments of my life into something beautiful and memorable. My father died suddenly; so needless to say, my brother and I were still in shock when it came time to plan services. The level of care and attention to detail shown by both David and Anthony is something that we won’t soon forget. Their empathy, kindness and mission to make our loved one’s services a reality is truly unlike anything that I’ve experienced. Beyond that, their prices were more than fair. A wonderful family owned business; no corporate price gouging here! They were able to help us give our father the beautiful, intimate service that I know that he would have wanted and absolutely deserved. As macabre as this sounds, he looked really good. Exactly like himself. Perfectly executed makeup. They didn’t make a fuss about dressing him as a cowboy, gun belt, lasso, boots and chaps included. (That was my dad!) They loved our idea and included that and his military service in all aspects of the service and burial. They didn’t flinch when we included other special things with him in the coffin. Thank you again to the owner and staff of D. W. Swick in Wheelersburg, Ohio. To those considering this funeral home, you truly could not ask for a better group of people to handle your loved one’s services.”
“This funeral home is amazing. I've had so many friends and family use them and their compassion and service is exceptional through every step. In fact, I feel like the Swick's have become like family themselves.”
“In the past 30 years, our family left using their trusted friends at either Brant Funeral Services in Sciotoville or Don Wolfe Funeral Home (which is now D. W. Swick also) in Sciotoville also or Harrison - Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg, Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth or even Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth. We did this not because of the fact that Mr. & Mrs. Swick offered a more reasonable and affordable funeral service, but because each time we used them we became more and more like family to them. Our Grandmother died a horrific death at the hands of another person. Seeing her in the Intensive Care Unit was heartbreaking, our uncle who was a very proud man was taken by cancer that slowly decimated his body, Our sister who fought cancer for over 15 years were all restored to the people that we had known and loved for years. The artwork that Mr. Swick and his staff created was amazing for us to be able to be at peace with their passing. The Southern Ohio area is wrought with such a horrible decline in businesses that actually still care. The funeral homes above that I mentioned earlier are all about their profit and their motives are profit only. For instance, Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home has not been updated in years, Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home still has the same outdated appearance that it had in the 1980’s when Mrs. Hanshaw had our cousin. Brant Funeral Home has been updated with carpet and paint, however it appears to us, as we spoke as a family this past weekend that their facility is just not what it should be for the amount of business that they have. The Swick Family keeps their facilities all looking beautiful and updated. Their automobiles are always looking new off the showroom floors, the cleanliness of the homes are always top notch. Granted the location in Sciotoville looks like it might be caught in a time warp with the outdated furniture but there has been significant improvement inside of the facility as well that really shows the amount of love the Swick Family has for the community and what they are putting back into the businesses and not just into their pockets. As I stated, this past weekend we sat down as a family to discuss the future of our decisions for our mentally challenged sister and her own funeral arrangements as the time is getting closer per her physicians. We made a pro and con list of every funeral home I have already listed. I have to say, we had a whole list of cons for all of the funeral homes except for D. W. Swick Funeral Homes, no matter which location (other than the outdated furniture in Sciotoville). We do not look forward to anyone passing away, but we do look at the future and knowing what it holds for each of us at one point or the other, with that said, hands down, D. W. Swick Funeral Home (and hopefully soon, D. W. Swick Funeral Home and Son) will continue to be our choice funeral home, any location, as we have taken a vote and have made the Swick’s part of our family as much as they have made us a part of theirs. As I finish this review, I encourage everyone who has used one or two or even maybe three different funeral homes in the area (or even outside of the area) to go visit Mr. Swick, Dee as he is known throughout the community. You will not regret your decision either just for a friendly conversation or if you chose to use them when that time has come, you will hopefully definitely agree with me that D. W. Swick Funeral Homes are THE choice for affordable, beautiful services in a homelike environment where you can be at peace knowing that your loved one has been entrusted into the best hands possible. If nothing else, it is worth a look and see. A hug from Mr. Swick makes the darkest of days feel like it was just a passing moment. Thank you so much for reading this. The Jacob, Raike, Mullins and Rhinehardt Families of the entire Southern Ohio and Northeastern Kentucky areas.”
“D.W. Swick Funeral Home did a great job with my Dad’s funeral. They were nice and easy to deal with and walked my Mom through every step. They gave us time after the funeral before bringing the flowers to my Mom. They have sent text messages checking on the family. My Dad’s funeral was beautiful. Thank you, D. W. Swick! The family of Rick Nash Sr.”
