For many, many years, my family has called upon Bates, Wallace & Health to help guide us through the saddest part of life; with kindness, comfort, and sincerity. And even though the funeral home has 'changed hands' in the past few recent years, nothing has changed. These wonderful people are there for the family in any capacity needed. My recent call to them regarding the passing of my mother was no different. Paula and Jeff... I thank you from the bottom of my heart...for not only coming out in the middle of the night, during one heck of a snowstorm, but also...making us feel like we were your family at that moment too. I thank you for the helping me smile a bit at that moment too. As for Mike (Scott) Schmidt, who also happens to be my friend from school, it goes without saying, that this kind human being cares very much about people, and will do anything in his power to help families in their time of sadness. When it comes to choosing a funeral home, whenever that need arises, this one is the best. I am so grateful for Bates, Wallace & Heath and the wonderful caring people they are.

I can't say enough about the genuine care and concern that comes from these amazing people! We dealt directly with Josh who gave us every bit of his time that we needed. He came directly to my home on a couple of occasions to drop off or pick up things of necessity because it made things easier for me. He called to check on me throughout this sad journey and he or his assistant still continue to check in now and then just to see how I am doing or if there's anything they can help with. This was only a small part of all the things he did for us. If Josh couldn't be with us during a part of the process he was very informative of when he would be there and who would be in his place until he arrived. I am so grateful to Josh and his staff in all they did for me and my family. I would've been completely lost without him.

How honors are coordinated

Military funeral honors are guaranteed at no cost for any veteran discharged under conditions other than dishonorable. The funeral home arranges the honors detail by contacting the deceased's last unit or the nearest active-duty installation of the appropriate branch and submitting the DD-214 to verify eligibility.

For requests less than 72 hours from service time, families can call the Department of Defense's expedited honors line at 1-877-MIL-HONR (1-877-645-4667). See the full honors protocol.
