History of Cheyenne National Cemetery

In January 2017, VA purchased the land located southeast of US Department of Agriculture Research Center on Hildreth Road for $64,099. The property is located in Laramie County. The initial phase of construction will develop approximately 2.42 acres and provide for approximately 1,604 gravesites, accommodating both casketed and cremated remains.

In addition to gravesites, the cemetery will include other features such as a front entrance off Hildreth Road, a columbarium and memorial plaque wall, a flagpole assembly area, a committal shelter, and a gravesite locator kiosk. Other cemetery infrastructure features will include roads, landscaping, and irrigation.

Directions

From the Denver International Airport: Follow E-470 North to Interstate 25. Head north on I-25 for 104 miles. Take Exit 8B to merge onto I-80 W toward Laramie. Take Exit 357 for WY-222 toward Roundtop Road. Continue to WY-222/Roundtop Road to Hildreth Road for 5.3 miles/9 minutes. Turn left onto Hildreth Road onto USDA property. Keep left following signage to Cheyenne National Cemetery.

Floral and grounds policy

Cemetery policies are conspicuously posted and readily visible to the public.

Fresh cut flowers may be placed on the graves throughout the year. Temporary plastic flower containers are available for use.

Weapons policy

VA regulations 38 CFR 1.218 prohibit the carrying of firearms (either openly or concealed), explosives or other dangerous or deadly weapons while on VA property, except for official purposes, such as military funeral honors.

Possession of firearms on any property under the charge and control of VA is prohibited. Offenders may be subject to a fine, removal from the premises, or arrest.
